Marquis Apparel
Project Goal:
Create an identity for a niche, Louisiana-based apparel company utilizing a Southern Gothic aesthetic.
Concept:
Logo design and branding
Execution:
Three symbols were chosen to create the identity for this apparel company: A fleur de lis (traditional symbol to represent Southern Louisiana French culture), a skull to represent the dark aesthetic the company represents, and a shield to reflect the strength and perseverance of Cajun culture in the United States. Handmade pen and ink illustrations were produced as artwork for clothing, choosing subjects that are traditionally used in Gothic works such as reptiles and skeletons. A black and white color palette was established to reflect the nature of these illustrations, creating a serious and moody feel to the brand’s identity.
